Meet The Crew
Newman Huckabee Lawrence
Newman has been with the Outdoor Shoppe off and on for three years. He received his BS in Education from the Citadel. Growing up all over, he has been able to experience much of the world. Whether it was glacier hiking in the Swiss Alps or hitchhiking in Southern Africa, his heart always belonged in the salt marshes of the Lowcountry. Most recently Newman sailed across the Atlantic on an 1800's replica schooner teaching high school and college students about human rights. You can always find him out fishing the creeks or sailing around the harbor. Neuman is our camping and technical gear expert.
Peter Newlin
Peter, a native of Georgia, grew up backpacking with his father in the Sierra Nevadas. It was then that a love of the outdoors grew in his heart. From braving whitewater rivers to ice climbing on a NOLS expedition in Alaska, Pete has done it all. His all time favorite activities are whitewater kayaking, climbing, and backpacking. Pete can help you with questions about climbing and mountaineering. He enjoys long walks on the beach, and candle light dinners. Come by the shop and Peter will get you prepared and excited for your next trip.
Will Lindsey
Captain Planet
Will grew up in Florence, SC. As a former Boy Scout, he was able to achieve the Rank of Eagle. Since then, his love for the outdoors and especially environmental stewardship has increased exponentially. He enjoys looking for new ways to lower his personal environmental impact, as well as spending ample time kayaking the marshes of the Low Country. Will can help you select all your kayaking equipment including: the correct paddle, life jacket, dry sacks and scupper plugs. Along with kayaking Will also enjoys hiking, backpacking, climbing, and just enjoying Planet Earth.
Julia Carter
Mrs. Clean
A member of our team since May 2008, Julia Carter is from Johns Island, SC. Her most recent adventure was kayaking on the Stono River amidst a pod of dolphins - always a great time. When not kayaking, Julia is working on her Masters Degree in Environmental Studies at the College of Charleston. Her main project is trying to get the word out about water quality in the Lowcountry - we're surrounded by water - we need to protect it!!!!
Eleanor Hollingsworth
River Rat
Eleanor grew up in Atlanta and recently graduated from the College of Charleston with a Theatre degree. A NOLS whitewater guide course based in Vernal Utah gave her a wealth of whitewater knowledge and intensified her love of the outdoors. If she's not in a theater performing, you can find her swinging from the James Island county park climbing wall, or maybe trekking through the woods. Eleanor is our local rock climbing specialist.
