That is why our loyal customers return month after month, and year after year, to prepare for all their outdoor excursions. Our qualified, adrenaline junkie staff is incredibly knowledgeable and eager to serve. The Outdoor Shoppe opened its doors on Meeting Street in downtown Charleston in November of 2000. Initially recognized as a fishing and canoeing specialist, we have now evolved into a kayaking, camping, backpacking, and climbing shop. We carry brand names like Mountain Hardwear, Kelty, Perception Kayaks, Merrell Shoes, MSR, Sierra Designs and many more. Whether you are a seasoned vet or an uncertain novice, The Outdoor Shoppe can provide you with sound advice and educated recommendations to equip you appropriately for most outdoor activities. In fact, we have been recognized as a NOLS preferred dealer for years in a row!
We, at The Outdoor Shoppe, are thrilled to assist in all of your adventures. Families always have and always will enrich their lives through immersing themselves in the beauty of our world. Let us help you get started. START HERE... GO ANYWHERE!
Doing Our Part
The Outdoor Shoppe has taken steps to reduce the amount of waste we produce, to recycle everything we can, and to reuse the random items collected over time in the mysterious back room. Following are a few things we pride ourselves on doing for the environment.
-100% of employees have bicycles that have carried them to and from work. At least 50% of employees ride their bikes every time they come to work.
-We are part of the blue bin club. We recycle glass & plastic, steel and aluminium. Paper is collected and recycled or shredded and used for composting.
-Our compost is made up of our shredded paper and soil to create mulch for our garden beds
-A work in progress: adding trash cans for paper towel waste in the bathrooms
-Cardboard boxes are broken down and recycled, used to ship items to customers, or made into displays and furniture.
-Plastic bags used to package our products are used as stuffing for our backpacks and other displays. Bags that are still in good condition are used as our check-out bags. Good for rainy days or when we are out of our usual bags!
-We offer to take your newly purchased shoe boxes and recycle them.
-Herbs grow in our front window boxes. A delicious treat for your salad at lunch time. Another garden will sprout this spring behind our store to yield more herbs and some vegetables.
-We have switched to Energy-saving compact fluorescents(CFs). All bulbs are recycled after use.
-Have empty fuel cans? We will take them and recycle them for you!
Lastly, we attempt to bring in and carry products from companies that care about reducing their environmental footprint. We appreciate their efforts and hope you will too.
